Let's face it, whenever you decide to purchase a new or pre-owned vehicle the last thing on your mind are repair costs. Your primary concern is "how much is my new or pre-owned car, truck or van going to cost me each month?" It's a new vehicle, so why would I have repair costs? So, as an auto buyer you decide not to get warranty protection on your car, truck, van or SUV to stay within your monthly budget.
Well, consider this fact. The standard warranty on most new and pre-owned vehicles is 3 years or 36,000 miles (whichever comes first) and the average auto loan term is 66 months.
Those unexpected out of pocket repairs can cause undue stress to your checkbook and budget. By adding warranty protection to your monthly auto payment you can protect yourself from making monthly payments on a non-functioning or improperly functioning vehicle because you cannot afford to make repairs. Getting less than fair market value for your trade-in because your vehicle is non-functioning or improperly functioning. Getting behind on your monthly auto payments because of unexpected repair costs. Carrying over negative trade equity (being-upside down) to your next vehicle loan.
If your vehicle is worth less than the loan amount, you will have to add this amount to your next vehicle loan. What does this mean to you? Well consider this example.

Kelly Blue Book shows that Tim's Cavalier� is worth $5,425.00 in "Good" condition. However, because of the blown engine, Tim's trade-in is worth only $2,075.00 because of the necessary engine repairs. Tim's payoff amount for his existing loan on the Cavalier is $5,625.00.
The difference between what Tim's Cavalier� is worth and how much he owes on his existing loan is $3,550.00. Tim will now have to add this amount to the loan for his new Cobalt�. This is what is referred to as "being upside down" or having "negative trade equity". Having warranty protection on the original loan could have saved Tim over $3,000 and prevented him from paying additional repair costs and adding additional cost to his new Chevy Cobalt� loan. What this enables the car to do is only use the power steering when it's really needed - turning a corner, for example. Lexus, the luxury car division of Toyota Motor Corp., presents the Lexus LS 600hL as the world’s first V8 all-wheel-drive hybrid. It is also the Lexus that is capable of parking itself, apart from having the performance comparable to a sport sedan.Powered with a 5 L V8 hybrid that provides 290kW/520Nm of torque, the Lexus LS 600hL is capable of running 0 to 100 km in 6.3 seconds. And it only consumes as little as 9.3 liters of 95 RON petrol for every 100 km.The 2.4 tonne kerb weight leaves a fairly petite carbon footprint of 219 grams per kilometer, as the weight is being clawed through a tight bend with surety via a Torsen all-paw system.The LS 600hL has the first application of LED low-bean headlights. But, what is more thrilling is the Intelligent Park Assist (IPA) system sustained. The technology makes use of a rear camera and ultrasonic sensors in identifying a parking space and calculates the correct steering angle to guide the vehicle without curbing the 19 inches rims or perhaps bending fenders. The Los Angeles Auto Show is not just about showcasing new vehicles and concept vehicles. It is also the place where automakers' design studios competed to create the best design of vehicles of the future. Fifteen designs studios entered the competition with futuristic cars.The competition is about designing vehicles which will be attractive to car buyers 50 years from now hence the competition being called "Design Challenge: Robocar 2057". Designers should be able to explain why their designs would be popular fifty years down the road.Last year's winner of the competition is the Hummer O2. The said futuristic vehicle won the competition centered on eco-friendly automotive technology. The Hummer O2 design is powered by fuel cell and has the capability to purify the air around it. Algae-filled body panels of the futuristic vehicle transform carbon dioxide into breathable oxygen. Apart from that, the O2 is also made from 100 percent recycled materials.This year's winner is the Volkswagen Concept Slipstream. Said vehicle is basically a pod fit for a single person. On city streets, it travels in an upright position to occupy less space than vehicles of today. On special highways, the pod will travel horizontally at speeds reaching 250 miles per hour. The Slipstream is the brainchild of designers at Volkswagen/Audi Design Center in Santa Monica, California.Another vehicle which deserves recognition is the Mercedes-Benz Silver Flow. According to Marty Bernstein writing for The Auto Channel: "Designers of the Silver Flow envision a multi-dimensional vehicle composed of micro metallic particles that rearrange themselves to become a vehicle of a specific shape, literally by pressing a button on a magnetic assembler. The shape can be selected by the driver. Inspired by Mercedes-Benz racing vehicles from a bygone age this concept was created by the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design of North America in Irvine, CA."Japanese automaker Mazda put forth a radically-designed vehicle named the Motonari RX. Said vehicle is described by Bernstein saying: "Crumpled silver paper? No, the Motonari is made of a 100 percent, re-prototypable carbon fiber nano tube shape memory alloy weave with a photovoltaic coating (which, by the way, is yet to be invented). The interface between the driver and the vehicle is a driving suit made of millions of microscopic actuators, which enables the driver to experience the road psycho-somatically while making the driver and vehicle indistinguishable from each other. This sensational ride comes from Mazda R&D of North America in Irvine, CA."While the design put forth by automakers at the Los Angeles Auto Show are futuristic, they are sure to have reliable parts like Bilstein shocks if ever they are mass produced.

A two-seater coupe sports car which gives an ideal less weight of 2,975 pounds which is 221 pounds less than a standard F430 and a much lighter than Porsche 911 GT2.This special series model is designed particularly for all sports driving enthusiast and the automaker obviously concentrate to its minimum trimmings, light weight, and innovative technology which makes it a real high performance brilliant sports car. Did you know that your car insurance premiums may be affected by your credit score? Well, they can, and more and more automobile insurance companies are turning to this new system of premium determination. Not all companies are using this new system but many are, and if your company is using it, you should know a few things.
There is a philosophy behind this system. Some consumers may not agree with it, but there is one. After years of data collection, research, and study some car insurance companies have concluded that those individuals who have low credit scores are also the individuals who file the most claims. This assertion leads to some interesting questions, the most notable being: Do people with lower credit scores drive more poorly than those with higher scores?
The answer to that question is debatable. It might very well be that car insurance companies receive more claims from lower credit score individuals for reasons that have nothing to do with accidents. It is entirely possible that these same people live in communities where auto theft or vandalism is more prevalent than in other communities. There is also some debate over fraudulent claims, which would increase the overall number of claims associated with those who have lower credit scores.
Of course there is a flip side to this. What about those individuals who have low credit scores but have never had an accident or filed a claim? Is it fair for car insurance companies to increase their premiums? This is the crux of the debate, whether or not it is fair for an entire group of people to be penalized for the actions of a few.
In the past, car insurance companies have often used this broad stroke approach to setting premiums. For instance, we all know that younger drivers are usually assessed a higher premium, and this applies whether the driver in question has ever had an accident or not. All younger drivers pay more, or so it seems, and there is evidence that these younger drivers do have more accidents than people who are older.
On the issue of using credit scores, however, as a basis for determining the car insurance premiums that you may have to pay, there are a couple of things you can do. First, you should review your credit reports and scores to make sure they are accurate. You might be surprised at how often mistakes or omissions are found in these reports. Another option is to ask your car insurance company if they are using this system. You may find it more economical to switch to another company that does not use credit scores as a premium setting module. This is another article, in a series of articles, breaking down and critiquing, automotive manufacturers marketing brochures. Point of sale (POS) materials account for millions of dollars a year in the automotive industry. We want to look deep inside these marketing brochures and examine the sales and marketing angles for each particular model.In this article, we are going to take a closer look at the 2008 Honda Civic. Honda has an 18-page color brochure dedicated to selling its ideas, attempting to readjust the way you look at today's Honda Civic.When you think Honda Civic, what comes to mind? We think, great gas mileage, dependability, practicality, simply a smart purchase. Those qualities and ideas are still part of the overall Honda Civic DNA, but Honda wants to change the way you think about the Civic. Honda is going after an entirely different market."Spontaneity, Intensity, and Fun"...these are not yesterdays advertising keywords associated with the Honda Civic.Immediately on page 3, Honda asks you to "Go Ahead, Open It Up". Let's see what this baby will do. "Killer Looks", "Next-Big-Thing-Technology", "Burn Up The Pavement", just a few terms I'd not generally attach to the Civic. The folks at Honda are pushing this vehicles driving experience and persona in an attempt to lure in an entirely different demographic.There is no doubt, the Civic has grown up. The thought of a navigation system in a model lines lower end cars may seem a bit much, but Honda decided to devote an entire page to their version of navigation. Leather interior also earned a complete one page spread, in an attempt to further move away from the traditional Civic market and towards a more bold and aggressive buyer."Lots Of Thrust, Little Thirst"...This is a bit closer to the Civic marketing we've all become accustomed to. Gas mileage and a little zip, that's my good old Civic.Honda went back to its roots in a three page spread exclusively marketing the 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid. This is what I expect from Honda in regards to the Civic. The hybrid version of the 2008 Honda Civic makes perfect sense for this model. Ever the practical choice for fuel savings, initial investment savings, and overall automotive cost, the Civic now extends into environmental "Green" savings with the Honda Civic Hybrid. They appeal to your intelligence, "Hybrid: A Smarter Way To Drive". And they appeal to your overall concern of the environment in the classic way Honda always has.The Honda Civic Si Coupe is the portion of the brochure that you would expect some content relating to power and style and verve. "Obey Your Wilder Side" is a perfect lead in to this trim level of the Civic. The Si has always had a following with the younger, "Generation X" demo, and Honda has done a great job of reinforcing this Civic model again to its segmented audience. Naming one of its color, Habanero Red Pearl, was another nice touch.Safety only earned one page of the brochure and there is only one page describing the "DNA" of the Honda Civic.Honda is making a very conscience effort to expand its market for the Civic. This could be a bit of a risk for a model that has been more successful than anyone at Honda could have ever imagined. I'm sure the likes of the Mazda3 and Nissan Sentra have the marketing department at Honda rethinking the whole Civic thing. But, a niche is a niche is a niche. They are stepping outside the area that has worked so well for them in the past. It will be interesting to see if they expand or decrease their market share for the Civic with this approach.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation manufacturer of Mitsubishi truck part has announced recently the results of their global production, as well as domestic sales and exports for March 2007 and fiscal year 2006.The total global production came in at 140,584 units with 5.4 percent increase from the year ago period. The Japanese production increased by 6.3 percent year-on-year to 86,240 units, increasing the sixth consecutive months of year-on-year production volume. Likewise, the overseas production increased for the first time in sixteen months by 4.0 percent year-on-year to 54,344 units.Mitsubishi's total vehicle sales in Japan reached 38,451 units or 79.1 percent of the March 2006 total. The registered vehicle sales declined to 13,941 units, or 95.1 percent compared to the year ago figure due to slower sales of Outlander and the Colt series. The Minicar sales were able to record only 24,510 units or 72.2 percent year-on-year. Total sales for passenger cars were 30,383 units or 84.4 percent of March 2006 level, and commercial vehicle sales were 8,068 units, 64.0 percent of the same period last year.The overseas production for the month totaled 54,344 units or 104.0 percent of the year ago period figure. European production reaches 5,836 units, or 73.4 percent of last year's total. North American production came in at 8,135 units, a 96.2 percent year-on-year. Asian production totaled 36,391 units or 8.2 percent increase from March 2006's levels resulting to the increase export of Triton (L200) pickups from Thailand.Total exports from Japan reached 59,816 units or 24.2 percent increase over the previous period and in turn increase the fifth consecutive months of year-on-year volume. On the other hand, exports to Europe increased to 21,093 units or 118.2 percent of the same period last year. The exports to Asia reached 4,239 units or 82.3 percent of March 2006 levels. Exports to North America came in at 13,515 units, recording 1676.8 percent increase from last year's figure due to favorable sales of Outlander and increased shipments of new Lancer.For the fiscal year 2006, global production reached 1,315,789 units or 95.2 percent of the levels seen in fiscal year 2005. Back during the 1980s when Mercedes introduced its first "baby" Mercedes, the car was received with mixed reviews. Motorists loved the car, now a "C" series model, as it made a Mercedes automobile affordable for the middle class. On the other hand, critics worried that the esteemed Mercedes-Benz name would suffer as a car touching the price level of many ordinary American models would soon become part of the line up. Today, even smaller Mercedes are planned for the US market. Will this be a huge mistake for the German automaker or is Mercedes incorporating smart thinking?To the surprise of many Americans, the Mercedes brand isn't as pompous or pretentious in Europe as it is in the U.S. Crafty Mercedes-Benz marketing over the years has presented an image of Mercedes as being an ultra-luxury automobile line, a truly superb benchmark from which all other cars are measured. In some respects this image is true, but in reality Mercedes goes well beyond such a narrow definition.In the European market, Mercedes is known for producing these same high quality luxury cars, but also for producing vehicles that are much more attainable for the masses. Even right now Mercedes sells four models in Europe that are uncharacteristically Mercedes type vehicles, at least for the American market:Viano - A minivan of sorts, the vehicle can hold as many as eight people and is powered by either a pair of inline four cylinder engines or a 3.5L I6.Vaneo - A compact van with seating for as many as seven adults. The same six engines offered with the "B" Series are offered in the "A" Series plus one additional diesel for a total of seven engine choices!Prices for the "A" Series starts around $23,000 when current British to American currency exchange figures are factored in to nearly $29,500 for the "B" Series. The Vaneo and Viano would sell at around $25,550 and $39,800 respectively if today's European prices were carried over to the U.S.So, what does Mercedes have in mind? They are hoping to introduce the "B" Series to the U.S. market by 2007. Is this a wise decision? In my opinion it has worked well in Europe, however it would be better for Mercedes to create a new make of cars to include the "B" Series. Much like Toyota has spun off both Lexus and Scion, Mercedes would be better served by creating a separate "down market" brand in order to uphold the Mercedes name. No, there isn't anything shameful about any of these small vehicles - in fact, they are a wise idea - however, decades of marketing in the U.S. can certainly be undone overnight by the introduction of any vehicle smaller than the "C" Series to the Mercedes line up. No car as small as the "B" Series would wear a Lexus nameplate, so why should a car of this type wear the Mercedes moniker?As I said, this is just my opinion. What are your thoughts? Powered by 1.6L or 1.9L I4 gasoline engines or a 1.7L diesel.B Series - Mercedes' answer to the Volkswagen Golf is its own "B" Series of automobiles. This five door hatchback, which also looks a lot like a Toyota Matrix, comes with six engine choices: four gas engines starting with a 1.5L I4 up to a 2.0L turbocharged four, and two diesels.A Series - Even smaller than the "B" Series is the "A" Series, three or five door hatchback models about the size of a Toyota Echo. That's right, a teeny tiny Mercedes! The same six engines offered with the "B" Series are offered in the "A" Series plus one additional diesel for a total of seven engine choices!Prices for the "A" Series starts around $23,000 when current British to American currency exchange figures are factored in to nearly $29,500 for the "B" Series. The Vaneo and Viano would sell at around $25,550 and $39,800 respectively if today's European prices were carried over to the U.S.So, what does Mercedes have in mind? They are hoping to introduce the "B" Series to the U.S. market by 2007. Is this a wise decision? In my opinion it has worked well in Europe, however it would be better for Mercedes to create a new make of cars to include the "B" Series. Much like Toyota has spun off both Lexus and Scion, Mercedes would be better served by creating a separate "down market" brand in order to uphold the Mercedes name. No, there isn't anything shameful about any of these small vehicles - in fact, they are a wise idea - however, decades of marketing in the U.S. can certainly be undone overnight by the introduction of any vehicle smaller than the "C" Series to the Mercedes line up. Does Car Warranty Law Protect Both Parties?

The car warranty law is written to cover every possible situation that could happen with regard to the status or sale of a car. So don't be surprised if you try to read it and become more confused than ever. There's nothing to get excited about, however. The only parts of the car warranty law that concerns you are the ones pertaining to your state and the fundamentals that are observed in every state in the U.S.
If your car is older and doesn't pass the emissions test when you go to renew your registration, be prepared to pay to have the emission controls replaced. It isn't cheap, and you can't do it yourself because in some states you have to prove that you had it fixed by a professional. Since emission controls are the parts of your car that limit how much carbon your car puts out into the universe every time you take a spin, consider your repair bill as your contribution to saving the ozone layer. Or if you live in California the smog index may just drop a degree or two.
If you have a brand new car and the emissions controls fail, you can take it back to the dealer and use the federally imposed car warranty law to have the parts fixed or replaced for free. Because the emissions controls aren't something that people think about, it is a good idea to find out how long you can take advantage of this offer or get an emissions test performed at a local garage.
Under the new car warranty law, car manufacturers have to give the new owner a certification that the most important parts that keep the car running are not defective. The manufacturer knows his parts aren't defective because the factory puts each car through some elusive quality control tests before it ever leaves the factory. This law helps manufacturers shirk their responsibilities for defective cars and still hide lets them hide behind limited warranties that only cover certain parts or that become null and void after the car is driven a certain number of miles.
What's really interesting about the quality control test, which is needed to certify a car, is that the manufacturer performs it on his own cars in order to give himself his own certification. However, is not clearly defined whether or not this certification gives the buyers some recourse of action if they experience problems with the car. This part of the new car warranty law doesn't name any specific parts, how rigorously they should be tested, or exactly what the manufacturer is looking for when he tests important components. But, as long as the paper is issued, the car is certified.
Under the car warranty law if you purchase an auto As Is, the manufacturer and the dealership has no responsibility for the repairs on the car. Essentially, the owner of the car is responsible for all maintenance and all repairs that will need to be performed on the auto. This applies to used cars.
Most car buyer's don't go to used car lots and believe the sales person when they say, "That's just the battery. I'll have it fixed as soon as you get back with that cashier's check!" They may not be familiar with the car warranty law that protects used car dealers from having to make repairs to the buyer's car unless they are written in the car warranty area of the purchase contract. If the buyer wants to purchase a car that seems okay except for the muffler, they will want the muffler replaced under the warranty. The sales person might write "replace muffler" in the right place on the contract but if the muffler isn't working three months later and you take the car back to the dealer, he may just look at you and say, "I did what you asked, but all I had was an old rebuilt muffler. There's nothing I can do now." Unfortunately, he's right because he fulfilled his written contract. What the buyer should have done differently at the signing of the contract was be more specific. Here's something more like what should have been written on the contract under warranty. "Replace muffler with brand new name-brand muffler within 24 hours of contract signing." You can't be protected the car warranty law unless you understand it.
Different states call it the "lemon law" but it is really the same in all fifty states as described by the car warrant law. Basically, the law protects the buyer when a dealership or an individual knowingly sells a car that is about to fall apart and tells the buyer that it just needs a tune up and then lies about the fact that the car has a warranty that will cover a tune up, which is the farthest thing from the truth. Let's say a buyer wants to buy a Porsche, but they don't even have enough money to buy a used one. They can go to an auction where the insurance companies drop off their cars "As Is." Here's where the car warranty law comes into play. Because according to the laws concerning salvage cars, even if the buyer finds a salvage Porsche they could afford, they still can't go anywhere to get the car fixed, including the Porsche dealership, because most places offer warranties on labor and parts and by law salvage cars can't have any warranties placed on them.
Car rental companies may sell their autos that are no longer being used for clients. In addition, they may by the car warranty law sell a limited car rental warranty to the buyer. It is important to note that these warranties are extremely limited because car rentals typically have excessive number of miles for the age of the car.

The Purpose of the Act is to assure that purchasers of new motor vehicles are made aware of any repairs made to their motor vehicle before they take title to it.The Act requires the dealer/manufacturer to disclose damage in writing, both repaired and repairable damage, which exceeds $500.00 or 3% of the manufacturer's suggested retail price, whichever is greater. The act requires that the repair or repairable cost to be used is the dealer's retail charge for the same work on the date the repair was made. Where it is determined that a disclosure is required, the Act requires the dealer to make the disclosure in writing prior to the sale, and obtain a signature from the buyer acknowledging the damage. If a dealer fails to comply with the requirements of this act, the buyer is entitled to seek a refund of the purchase price of the damaged vehicle.Should you discover that your car was damaged, or suspect that it was damaged, prior to sale, Pennsylvania Lemon Law Attorney, David J. Let's face it. We both know that the Jaguar Marketing System has been around for quite awhile now. Many marketers claim that it's a new face lift or rather nice buzz going around the net. However, it is in fact a rehash of it's predecessor predator something. I happen to know the actual name but we'll just focus on the topic at hand. Shall we?There will be two parts to my short write up here and the first one is a little about Jaguar Marketing System (in case you don't already know what it's like). The second part I will touch on some interesting comments found during my web research so you'll save 45 minutes of your time punching in the search tool.1) What Is It All About?Quite simply put the Jaguar Marketing System prides itself for having 3 separate programs. One being the Silver level which costs $59.95. This has absolutely no leverage. You need to give up $9000 profit before you start earning any real cash. Let's face it. We both know that the Jaguar Marketing System has been around for quite awhile now. Many marketers claim that it's a new face lift or rather nice buzz going around the net. However, it is in fact a rehash of it's predecessor predator something. I happen to know the actual name but we'll just focus on the topic at hand. Shall we?There will be two parts to my short write up here and the first one is a little about Jaguar Marketing System (in case you don't already know what it's like). The second part I will touch on some interesting comments found during my web research so you'll save 45 minutes of your time punching in the search tool.1) What Is It All About?Quite simply put the Jaguar Marketing System prides itself for having 3 separate programs. One being the Silver level which costs $59.95. This has absolutely no leverage. You need to give up $9000 profit before you start earning any real cash. This year was quite a tough time for Volvo. Other than Ford Motor Corp.'s reported plan to have Volvo sold along with Jaguar and Land Rover in order to raise cash, the sales of most of the Volvo models dropped. Its overall U.S. sales swooped by 9.9% in the first nine months of this year, at 80,991 units. Despite this however, Volvo was able to almost double its sales of S80 at 9,963 units in the first three quarters of 2007.The competition in the market for performance-oriented luxury sedans becomes crucial as automakers continue to crowd the segment. Volvo, as a second-tier brand, holds up with its redesigned S80 luxury sedan. The vehicle equipped with a powerful optional V-8 engine and other more pleasant features that made Volvo's S80 competitive enough with popular luxury models from Infiniti, BMW, and Audi. The big difference is that the S80 comes at a lower price along with a cool, minimalist Scandinavian interior styling.Though the speed of the S80 sedan barely matches the BMW 535i's, it has the sporty feel comparable with Honda's Acura RL.The 2007 redesigned Volvo S80 has been largely carried over for 2008 model year. Volvo has only added a third optional engine to the lineup. The front-wheel-drive base model can now be powered with a 3.2 L, 235 hp inline six-cylinder engine, priced at $39,450. And, the new T6, an all-wheel-drive version, can be powered by a turbocharged 3.0 L, 281 hp inline six-cylinder engine, priced at $43,790.Even if the S80 is equipped with the V-8 engine and all-wheel-drive, and packed with several options, it is considerably cheaper compared with the V-8-powered versions of its rivals: Audi A6, BMW 535i, Infiniti M45, and Cadillac STS. It even outwits the Acura RL that comes with a 3.5 L V-6 engine priced at $47,000 to $54,500. In addition, the T6 is seven grand less than the S80 with V-8 engine.The Sport Package worth $2,495 is offered as an optional on all versions of the S80. It has included 18-inch alloy wheels and Pirelli high-performance tires, bi-Xenon headlamps, speed-sensitive power steering, and ventilated front seats. It also comes with an electronic chassis control system that permits the alteration of suspension through a touch of a button.The S80 also offers fair fuel economy. The 2008 model has been rated with 16 miles per gallon in city driving and 24 on the highway, whereas the all-wheel-drive models were rated 15 in the city and 23 in highway driving.Volvo, struggling to survive, will also be releasing three new models, including the XC70 crossover vehicle, the boldly designed C30 hatchback, and the V70 wagon, in the next six months. All will be equipped with quality Volvo turn signal and other parts for optimum safety and performance.
