It can be noted that it was the Japanese who spearheaded the drifting movement, making the artful skill of vehicle control, wheel manipulation and tire smoke as one of the most adrenaline pumping and competitive motor sport events in the world today. At present, drifting has continued to grow as US car racing competitors, enthusiasts and fanatics have become so enamored with the sport.
Formula D, known as the biggest and widely recognized drifting movement in America, kicks off in its fourth season this year as five of the top competitive drivers compete in the cutthroat 2007 Formula D Championship series title in Monroe, Washington's Evergreen Speedway. Ten teams and their respective drivers are among the top competitors to battle it out in the said championship, where they have officially earmarked the new season with the launching of their newest drift vehicles. Here is a lineup of the competing racers and their new Formula D cars for the 2007 season.
Samuel Hbinette's 2006 Dodge Charger Srt-8. 2006 champion Samuel Hubinette sits in his new Dodge Charger SRT-8 with a 700hp. It's power and drive train consist of a supercharged Nuformz modified 392 cubic inch Hemi V8, 10.5-1 compression and120 inch wheelbase. The Dodge Charger Srt-8's steering is modified for more precise angles.
Rhys Millen's Pontiac Solstice. Remaining consistent in the title run all throughout the 2006 season, Millen has finally replaced his Pontiac GTO with a smaller yet more furious Pontiac Solstice with a power rating of 490 hp and 405 tq. Its power and drive train include Gm performance internals; Hks Gt-pro S turbo charger, Gtii wastegate, intercooler type-R, super sequential blow off valve, Fcon-pro, super and super mega flow filter. Daijiro Yoshihara's Nissan Silvia S15. Yoshihara brings it on this season with his 455 hp and 405 tq- powered Nissan Silvia S15. This drift car's power and drive train comes with an Hks 2.2 L Stroker kit, camshafts, Step 3 Headsystem, Gt3037s Turbocharger, Gt Ii Wastegate, R-type Intercooler, Sequential Transmission, F-con Vpro and Evc Boost controller; Exedy twin plate clutch; Driveshaft shop drive shaft and driveshaft shop axles. Nitto tires support its footwork as well as Nissan R33 rear brakes and other cool drift features.
Tony Angelo's 2006 Mazda Rx-8. Drifting under team Snakebite, Tony Angelo steers the wheel with this 340whp drift machine with snazzy power and drive train, footwork and exterior features.
Other Formula D cars include Miki Ryuji's A'pexi / Bergenholtz Mazda Rx-7; Darren Mcnamara's Toyota Levin; Ben Schwartz' Saturn Sky; Tony Brakohiapa's Ford Mustang; Steven Verdier's 2006 Subaru Sti and Hiro Sumida's 2006 Falken Is350.
